About Us

Learning Tree Cooperative Preschool is ...

A non-profit organization, licensed by the State of Michigan.  St. John's Episcopal Church graciously contributes the use of the facilities, but the operation of the preschool is solely the responsibility of the parents and teachers.  Thus, the word “Cooperative” is included in our title – as cooperation between parents and teachers is essential.

Tuition schedules are set to cover the salaries of the teachers and aides, who are the only paid employees of the preschool.  The preschool has no administrative or maintenance staff so activities such as cleaning and repairs depend on the volunteer efforts of parents.

The preschool board is comprised of the following officers; President, Administrator, Secretary, Treasurer, Purchaser, Publicity, Fundraising, and Event Planner.  This volunteer group is responsible for making all budget and policy decisions regarding the preschool.  The Director and teachers serve as non-voting advisers.

Under each of the board positions lie a vast number of specific job responsibilities that are necessary in order to keep the school running smoothly.  The jobs include everything from licensing,  fundraising, supplies, and program coordination.

Here at Learning Tree, there are many ways to be involved in your child's preschool experience.  Whether you volunteer to be a board member or contribute weekly job duties your role is critical to the successful operation of the school.  Thank you for your commitment to the school and to your child!

Our Mission

Our mission at Learning Tree Cooperative Preschool is to provide every child with a quality early childhood experience. We believe that education is a partnership between parents and teachers. We encourage problem solving in a loving, safe, play-based environment that develops confidence and fosters independence. This foundation for learning is cultivated by highly educated and caring teachers in a positive atmosphere. Fundamentals of literacy, math, and science are introduced through play and creative problem solving.  Socialization skills are nurtured through modeling, interactive activities, a creative play. We believe in empowering children by providing an atmosphere that allows children to learn by doing through concrete, hands-on experiences. Our priority is to provide a program that reflects the needs and goals of children and their families.
